Our research interests are broadly centered on understanding landscape change and its implications for ecosystem services at different spatial and temporal scales.  We work in a variety of ecosystem types, but major current efforts focus on wetlands in the California’s San Francisco Bay and Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and different urbanizing regions globally. Our methods bring together both field techniques and computer-based analyses using remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial modeling, and we are especially interested in developing new conceptual and practical frameworks for patchy, heterogeneous and highly dynamic landscapes.
